How the Ohio Scholarship Tax Credit Program Works
Redirect your Ohio income tax to support Ohio students — at no additional cost.
The State of Ohio established a Tax Credit Scholarship Program that allows individuals to receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit (not a deduction) against their Ohio income tax liability for contributions made to a certified Scholarship Granting Organization, such as The Ohio Commodores Scholarship Fund.
- Individuals may contribute up to $750 and receive a full tax credit
- Married couples filing jointly may contribute up to $1,500
- To qualify for the credit on your 2025 Ohio taxes, gifts must be received or postmarked by December 31, 2025
Eligibility and Impact of Commodores Scholarships
Scholarship awards are intended to support students and families facing financial challenges, helping ensure that economic circumstances do not limit access to educational resources, tools, and opportunities.
New for 2026: Appalachian Ohio Public School Pilot Project
“Beginning in 2026, the Ohio Commodores Scholarship Fund will pilot targeted support for high-need Appalachian Ohio public school districts, focusing on essential learning tools for middle and high school students.”
Beginning in 2026, the Ohio Commodores Scholarship Fund plans to launch a Public School Pilot Project focused on five public school districts in Appalachian Ohio with the highest levels of demonstrated need.
District selection will be based on Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) participation as determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, ensuring support is directed to communities serving the greatest percentage of economically disadvantaged students.
Pilot Project Focus Areas
The pilot program is designed to help address critical educational resource gaps for middle and high school students by supporting expenses related to:
- Technology, specifically student computers
- Graphing calculators required for math and science coursework
This initiative reflects the Commodores’ commitment to strengthening educational outcomes in underserved regions while responding to real-world classroom needs.
Your Ohio tax-credit donation helps support students with the greatest financial need — including targeted public-school initiatives in Appalachian Ohio.
What Does This Mean for Donors?
Because The Ohio Commodores Scholarship Fund is a certified SGO, you can make a no-cost gift to support Ohio students. Your contribution is fully offset by the Ohio income tax credit, allowing you to redirect tax dollars toward education where they are needed most.
